History of the Club

Taverham Tennis Club was formed in 1972 by a group of tennis enthusiasts.
They hadn't any land but the Parish Council agreed to build two all weather courts on the Parish's playing fields. A tenancy agreement was entered into between the Parish Council and the tennis club which raised funds by organising a Village sports day on the playing fields to meet 10% of the building cost.

Sadly in 1979 the courts had to be dug up and re-laid because of faulty foundations games were played at Hellesdon. A faithful handful of founder members kept the club going with various social and fund raising events.

In the 1980s and 1990s each new chairman and the committee made important improvements such as installing floodlighting and a permanent shelter.
In 1994 a grant of £9000 was obtained from the National Foundation for Sports and Arts which helped towards the costs to build a 3rd court.

In 2002 the Club Pavilion was built following a Lottery grant from Sports England and was opened by Chris Bailey former member of the club and British number 1.

2008 has seen new floodlight columns installed and the courts repainted.
